성범죄 무고죄 볼 때 떠오르는 말 > 읽을거리/사는얘기

It is more important that innocence be protected than it is that guilt be punished, for guilt and crimes are so frequent in this world that they cannot all be punished. But if innocence itself is brought to the bar and condemned, perhaps to die, then the citizen will say, 'whether I do good or whether I do evil is immaterial, for innocence itself is no protection,' and if such an idea as that were to take hold in the mind of the citizen that would be the end of security whatsoever.

유죄를 벌하는 것보다 무죄를 보호하는 것이 더 중요합니다. 이 세상에 죄악이나 범행은 워낙 많아서 그들 모두를 처벌할 수는 없습니다. 하지만, 만일 무죄인 사람을 법정에 세워 유죄 선고를 하고, 혹시 사형에 처하기라도 한다면, 시민들은 말할 것입니다. '내가 죄를 범하든 말든 상관 없어. 죄를 저지르지 않는다고 보호받는 것도 아니니까.' 그리고 그런 생각이 시민의 의식 속에 자리를 잡는다면 그것은 모든 치안의 종말로 될 것입니다
