- 1953년 금성전투에 참전했던 미 육군 7사단 소속 존 리차드 카펜터(John R. Carpenter) 소위의 회고록에서 발췌 -

중공군들은 계곡을 가로질러 새로운 지형에 진지를 세웠다.  우리는 그들중 한 명이 매일 일정한 행동거지를 보이는 걸 알 수 있었다. 지휘관으로 보이는 그 중공군은 아침마다 특정시간만 되면 벙커에서 나와 용변을 보러갔다. 한국군 저격수는 이를 쏘려고 했으나 소총탄이 닿지 않는 거리라서 상부에 보고만 했다. 그 정도 거리까지 사격 할 수 있는 무기는 50구경 기관총 뿐이었다. 그 저격수는 조금 후에 저격용 스코프를 구해와서 총에 장착한 다음 그 먼 거리를 겨냥하고 열심히 영점을 맞췄다. 우리 미군들은 그 과정을 흥미롭게 지켜보았다.

(As the Chinese began to settle into their new positions across the valley, someone began a set pattern of behavior. A Chinese officer, maybe of high rank, came out of his bunker and went to a slit trench to take a morning dump. An ROK sniper, who was unable to shoot at that great distance, reported this activity. The only weapon they had that was able to shoot that far out was a .50 caliber machine-gun. A corporal from the first squad drilled and tapped a 30-power sniper scope on top of the weapon. Picking a point far enough away, but at the same range of the target, he was able to zero in the weapon.) The Americans were surprised and watched the routine with interest.)

다음날 아침, 모든 것이 준비되었다. 우리는 쌍안경과 포병 조준경으로 그 쪽을 관측했다. 바람은 매우 잔잔했다. 우리는 그가 맞출수 있을지 없을지에 대해 내기를 했다. 한국군 저격수는 총을 거치하고 조준에 들어갔다. 아니나 다를까, 중공군 지휘관은 전날과 똑같은 시간에 막사에서 나왔다. 그가 우리쪽을 향해 쪼그리고 앉자, 총알이 발사되었고, 중공군은 가슴이 꿰뚫려 그대로 쓰러졌다. 그 한국군은 하루종일 자신의 총에 대해 자랑을 늘어놓았다. 

(The next morning, everything was set. Binoculars and artillery scopes were trained on the spot. The breeze was next to calm. Bets were taken. The weapon was cocked and sighted in. Sure enough the Chinese officer, ever so punctual, came out on time. As he squatted showing his pale bottom to the American and ROKs gathered to watch, the 710 grain bullet flew true, impacting dead center, and thus knocking the mooning officer head over heels. The corporal bragged about that shot all day. )
